young, wild and three

With Lauren’s birthday happening just 5 weeks after new baby’s arrival, I hadn’t put too much thought into her party. I had a few lofty ideas of a big outdoor party but with it being in July, most of her (and our!) friends were gone on holidays already. So we ended up just having a small family party at our house, and it turned out to be simple and sweet - but still wild - like our new 3 year old!

I designed her invitation using a wildflower + wild strawberry theme and kept the design in mind for the rest of the decorations. I made the garland by cutting out the words I printed out in the same font and strung them together using twine. I also made the bunting from fabric Lauren and I picked out at a quilt shop and sewed the tops over a string. (I made the last-minute decision to replicate it for a cake topper and ended up loving the miniature version so much!)

I kept the snacks simple by filling up containers with toddler-friendly snacks that fit with the theme (pretzel “twigs”, dried apples chips, and “wild animal” crackers), and filled mini jars with assorted berries and fresh whipped cream on top. I had my mom bake some strawberry white chocolate scones that were super yummy as well!

I picked up a bundle of chamomile daisies to decorate her cake, and used the rest spread out in jars for simple wild-flower accents and I think they were so cute and simple! They also smelled amazing!

Her cake was actually really simple to make - and really tasty too! I added in a few wild animals (toys she could keep after!) to the top as a little fun surprise for her. She was so excited to blow out her candles and sing happy birthday!

I saw this idea on Pinterest to wrap up little packets of wildflower seeds as favours with the sweet quote attached. I liked that her favours were something all of the guests could hopefully use and something she would enjoy doing later as well!
