diy honeybee halloween costume

Lauren was having a Halloween party at her preschool, so I wanted to make her a fun costume that was “indoor friendly” and more like clothing that she would be comfortable in at school! She suggested a honeybee so I ran with it! I ordered this dress from Amazon, and it fit really well and was so soft and stretchy!

To make it look like a bee, I just sewed some black ribbon around the skirt! Then, I used a few hexagon ceramic tiles I had laying around and glued them to felt and ribbon to make a ‘honeycomb necklace”. I used a plain black headband with white pipe cleaners for the antennas.

For the wings, I bought some thick iron-on interfacing and ironed on some white fabric with a light dot pattern on it. I cut out two almost tear drop shapes, and attached them with another piece of interfacing. I cut out a smaller shape the same as each wing in grey felt and dot fabric, and sewed it onto the middle of each wing, leaving a gather at the bottom. Then I added some more of the black ribbon (kind of like back pack straps) for her to wear them!
