our basement treehouse reveal!

Here it is in all of its play-time glory!! I am so thrilled with how this turned out, and love that the kids have a dedicated play area where all of their toys can stay organized too. Before building this, it felt like all of the toys were just on the floor, lined up along the walls and the kids barely took anything out to play. Now, this space invites imagination, active play, pretend play, and spaces to hide, read, slide and climb!

At our first showing of this house, we were blown away by the basement! Which is a rare thing for me, I normally don’t care for basements because they’re dark and small and feel cold. But this one! It was big, bright (more windows than most) and had SO MUCH ROOM for our kid’s play area. Here’s a view of the space from the listing photo, and what it looked like when we moved in:

We instantly knew this area would be the playroom for our kids, so we got to work right away. First, we painted the walls (BM Intense White), installed new carpet and white trim. We also upgraded the lighting to recessed LED’s, which really helped brighten up the space and make the light more uniform throughout (eliminating the hot spots from those old track lights was key!)

Next up: construction time! My husband built the entire treehouse - including the custom slide, ladder, and rock climbing wall! Full disclosure, I realize this isn’t a “treehouse” but our daughter has called it that from day one, and the whole design was her idea! The one she said thing it NEEDED though, was an ice cream shop!

So while Dad was busy building - I was busy designing the finishing touches! I chose a muted rainbow colour palette for the underside of the platform and felt awning.- pulling inspiration from all of our favourite toys from Coco Village! I LOVE their selection of wooden pretend play toys. The quality is amazing, the colours are perfect and most of all they inspire imaginary play!

The espresso maker is Lauren’s favourite, Ethan loves the toaster. We also got this breakfast tray, and of course, the ice cream cone stand set! We have had our little IKEA kitchen for a while now, but I love how it has a home under the treehouse as a little shop kitchen now! We also added hanging food baskets on the wall, and now the kids love using the little wooden shopping cart from Coco Village to shop for groceries, as well as cart around all of their treasures.
