'where the wild things are' diy halloween costume

For Ethan’s first Halloween, I knew I wanted to make a cozy warm costume that he could wear and be comfortable in while riding in a stroller watching his sister go trick-or-treating! I love the idea of sibling costumes, and Lauren loves the Where the Wild Things Are book - so I started digging through their clothes and with a few craft supplies I already had - created these costumes in one evening!

For the Wild Thing costume, I did buy this furry-looking balaclava (its actually inside out, its supposed to be fleece on the outside!), and added the face, ears and teeth with a mixture of felt and fabric. I used a sharpie to draw the pattern on a pair of leggings Lauren no longer wore (the tail is actually the fur off of one of her jacket’s hoods!), and sewed stripes onto an orange shirt using an old yellow t-shirt! She was able to layer up under everything to stay super warm.

For the Max costume, I attached felt buttons, tail, and whiskers to a white fleece suit he already had, and added a band of fur around a knit crown Lauren had! I used a dowel, wooden beads and felt to make his staff!
